This browser can’t compress video yet. It needs WebCodecs, which recent Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a computer have. Firefox on Android doesn’t. Try another browser, or use the photo compressor.
Short answer
Yes: choose the video above and press Compress video. The tool opens on Balanced with Up to 1080p selected, so a 4K video comes out as a 1080p MP4 of about 41 MB a minute. To convert 4K video to 1080p on an iPhone, open this page in Safari. Your browser does the work on your own device, and nothing is uploaded to a server.
How to convert iPhone 4K video to 1080p online
-
Choose the 4K video
Pick the clip from your photo library or your files. MP4, MOV, WebM and MKV open. 4K video from an iPhone is often HEVC, which opens only in browsers that can decode it: Safari, or a recent Chrome or Edge. If yours cannot, the tool says so.
-
Check that Up to 1080p is selected
Under the sizes, Resolution is already set to Up to 1080p, and Balanced sets no size target. The picture is scaled down to 1080p at up to 30 frames per second, so a 60 fps clip is saved at 30. Choose Up to 720p or Up to 480p for a smaller file still.
-
Or aim for a size
To fit a limit, pick a size such as Under 25 MB and keep Up to 1080p. The resolution is a ceiling: the tool stops at a high-quality bitrate for that picture, so a short clip can come out smaller than the size you picked. If the size is tight for the length, the tool lowers the picture further, and the plan says when quality drops.
-
Compress and download
Press Compress video and keep the tab open: a 4K video is large, so it takes minutes and real memory. The original is not changed, and the new file holds only picture and sound, so it carries no watermark.
What a minute of 4K video comes to
Each Resolution choice is a ceiling on the picture. The figures are for one minute of 4K video on Balanced. 1080p has a quarter of the pixels of 4K, and on a phone screen the difference is small. The video size calculator shows how long a video fits in a given size.
| Resolution choice | One minute of 4K video | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 1080p | About 41 MB | The usual choice: full HD, and a big saving on the original. |
| Up to 720p | About 19 MB | When size matters more than sharpness. |
| Up to 480p | About 9 MB | The smallest file, with a softer picture. |
| Original 4K from an iPhone | More than 175 MB | A minute at 30 fps in HEVC, according to Apple. |
Sizes from this tool’s own settings, checked 8 October 2026. The 4K figure is Apple’s.
Questions about 4K video
Can you convert 4K video to 1080p?
Yes. Choose the video here, keep Up to 1080p selected and press Compress video. The tool scales the picture down and saves a new MP4, and your original stays as it is. A minute of iPhone 4K at 30 fps may take more than 175 MB, according to Apple. At Up to 1080p the tool makes it about 41 MB.
Can you convert 4K video to 1080p on iPhone?
Yes, in Safari. Open this page on your iPhone, choose the video and press Compress video. The conversion runs on the phone and nothing is uploaded to a server. A 4K file is large, though, and iOS closes pages that use too much memory, so a long clip may fail. A shorter clip, or a computer, is safer.
How to convert 4K video to HD on iPhone?
HD usually means 720p or 1080p, so you have two choices: Up to 1080p, about 41 MB a minute, or Up to 720p, about 19 MB a minute. Open this page in Safari, choose the video, pick the Resolution and press Compress video. The copy is an H.264 MP4, which plays almost everywhere.
Can you change iPhone video resolution after recording?
Yes. The tool makes a new copy at a lower resolution: choose the video, set Resolution to Up to 1080p, 720p or 480p and press Compress video. The choice is a ceiling, so a 720p video stays 720p. Auto keeps the sharpest picture that fits.
Will 1080p look worse than 4K?
A little. 4K has four times the pixels, but on a phone screen the difference is small. Compressing also discards some detail whatever the resolution: video compressor without losing quality explains how to keep that loss small.
Can I keep 4K and still get a small file?
Only for short clips. With Auto and 25 MB, the tool keeps 2160p at good quality for a clip of up to 10 seconds, and 1440p for up to 23 seconds. At 50 MB it is 21 and 48 seconds. Anything longer comes out at 1080p or lower. See compress video to 25 MB for that size.
Is my 4K video uploaded when I convert it?
No. The video is converted in your browser, on your own device, and is never sent to a server. You can check in the Network tab of your browser’s developer tools. More about the tool is on the video compressor online page.
