This browser can’t compress video yet. It needs WebCodecs, which recent Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a computer have. Firefox on Android doesn’t. Try another browser, or use the photo compressor.
Short answer
To compress video under 20 MB, choose it above and keep the 20 MB size. The tool aims for about 19 MB, so you get an MP4 that fits the places that stop at 20 MB: iCloud Mail, the Outlook app and Discord without Nitro. Your video is processed in the browser and never uploaded to a server.
How to compress a video to under 20 MB
-
Choose the video
Pick the MP4 or MOV you want to shrink. You can shrink video to 20 MB from a phone, a camera, a screen recording or your computer, and the file is read from your disk and goes nowhere.
-
Keep the 20 MB size
The size is already set to 20 MB, and the tool aims for about 19 MB, a full megabyte under the line. The message text counts too, so a file right on 20 MB would leave no room.
-
Compress
Press Compress video to reduce the video size to 20 MB. The plan on screen shows the picture size, frame rate and expected size first. After the first pass the tool measures the file, and if it is over the target it encodes again at a lower bitrate.
-
Share the MP4
Download the result and attach it to your email or add it to a Discord message. The original is left as it was.
Where 20 MB is the limit
Three popular places stop at 20 MB, so if you compress video below 20 MB, the file works in all of them. Each has a page of its own: the iCloud Mail attachment size limit, how to compress video for Outlook, and how to compress video for Discord. The three count differently, as the table shows, but the same file satisfies all of them. The same tool has other sizes: compress video to 8 MB for a smaller file, and compress video to 50 MB for a place that allows more.
| Where | Limit | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| iCloud Mail | 20 MB | The size of messages you send and receive |
| Outlook app, internet accounts (Outlook.com, Gmail) | 20 MB | The attachment and the email together |
| Discord, without Nitro | 20 MB | The size of the file you upload, checked before Discord compresses it |

Questions about 20 MB videos
How to make a video under 20 MB?
Choose the video above, keep the 20 MB size and press Compress video. The tool works out the bitrate from the length of your video, aims for about 19 MB and checks the result, encoding again if a pass lands over.
How long of a video is 20 MB?
At good quality, about 33 seconds at 1080p, 1 minute 12 seconds at 720p and 2 minutes 34 seconds at 480p. A longer video still fits, because the tool lowers the resolution, and if needed the frame rate, and the plan warns you before you start when quality drops. For any other length, use the video size calculator.
Can I compress video to 20 MB without losing quality?
Compression always gives up some detail, so not entirely. For a short clip at 20 MB the difference is small on a phone screen. The tool lowers the resolution before it lets the picture turn blocky, and you can play the result before you download it. Your original is never changed, so you can always go back to it.
How do I compress a video to 20 MB for Discord?
The same way: without Nitro, Discord has a 20 MB limit that is checked on the original file, so make the smaller copy here first, then upload the MP4 to Discord.
Is 20 MB enough for Outlook and iCloud Mail?
For iCloud Mail and for the Outlook app on internet accounts, yes: both use 20 MB. A work account on Exchange can start at 10 MB, so there you would compress video to 10 MB instead. Outlook.com on the web is the exception that takes more, 25 MB.
Is there a free 20 MB video compressor?
This one is free, needs no account, and sets no limit on the size of the video you start with. It makes an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, which plays almost everywhere.
Can I compress video to 20 MB online free without uploading it?
Yes. The conversion happens in your browser, on your device, so the video never reaches a server. It works in current Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox, and on an iPhone in Safari.
What if my video is too long for 20 MB?
The tool lowers the bitrate first, then the resolution and frame rate, to keep the picture clean. If even that cannot work, it shows a warning before you start, and after compressing it shows by how much the file is still over the limit.
On iPhone
Video Compressor: Metras
Our iPhone app makes smaller copies of the videos in your library, right on the device. Choose 20 MB, 25 MB or 10 MB, or enter a size of your own, see the estimate before you start, and compare the copy with the original afterwards. Nothing is uploaded to a server, large batches run in the background with Premium, and your originals stay in Photos until you decide.
